Homework Tonight

Pencils

Thank you for the pencils! I am happy to say we have plenty of pencils now. I’m working on getting a better pencil sharpener. If I can do that, then I think our pencil problems will be over.

Infinite Campus

I have updated infinite campus with all of their math assignments. If your child has been absent recently, they need to come to me and ask me for a copy of their missing work.

Tonight

For homework, students will bring home their test over chapter 6. Students will also have a “Wrong Answer Analysis Chart”. They should use their chart to correct any questions marked wrong on their test.  The chart looks like this: Análisis de preguntas incorrectas. If students correct their test and bring it signed tomorrow, I’ll raise their grade by 10%.

February 3rd

Sra. Gonzales and I will be cooking a Costa Rican breakfast for our classes. On the menu will have some tropical fruits– papaya, mangoes, pineapple, carambolas (starfruit) and guayabas (If I can find them!)– and gallo pinto! We’ll listen to Latin American music and have a great time.  If you would like to join us, you are welcome to come.

February 13th

Students will take a timed multiplication test. Please continue to help them memorize their multiplication and related division facts.

FYI

Parents,

  1. Multiplication, mutliplication, multiplication! Please continue to help your child memorize his/her multiplication tables. Students need to start practicing their multiplication tables daily. Even if it’s only for 5 to 10 minutes. Students can use this graph to keep record of their progress:  Gráfica de minuto loco. Everyday they can graph how many problems they were able to solve in one minute. I still have many students struggling to complete their assignments in class because they do not know their multiplication facts.
  2. In class, we’re reading “Robo en la noche” by Kristi Placido. It’s a leveled chapter book about a young girl, Makenna, who moves to Costa Rica with her father. Once we finish reading the book, we’re going to have a Costa Rican breakfast in class like the one Makenna eats when she first arrives in Costa Rica.  I’ll email you all the details. I’ll probably need some volunteers.
  3. Pencils! In class, we are having a terrible time with pencils. They ones brought in along with other school supplies are “unsharpenable”! I don’t believe that is a word, but I don’t know what else I can call it. I have bought and bought pencils –the ones made from ‘real wood’ that we are able to sharpen– and my students eat them, or make them disappear somehow, because we are out of pencils again. If you happen to be at the store and you come across some ‘real wood’ pencils, I would appreciate them greatly.
  4. We are looking for several parents to help with science fair. If interested in helping with the preparations, please sign up on this link: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A4BAEAE2DA75-2012.

Thanks!

Deborah

Infinite Campus

Parents,

If you do not have a username and password for Infinite Campus, please follow this link and you will be able to sign up: Infinite Campus

Parents…

  • Today for homework, students need to review for their chapter 1 test. Students took a sheet of paper home stating all the skills/concepts assessed in the exam tomorrow. Please encourage them to spend some time looking over that sheet of paper tonight.
  • If you have not signed the Parent Handbook Acknowledgment of Receipt, please do so and send it in with your child tomorrow.
  • If possible, come and join Ms. Thompson and I for the Open House at 6:00 p.m. in the library tomorrow.
  • Ms. Fehr is holding a bake sale on September 1st to help sponsor the school garden. We are encouraging parents to help out by bringing individually wrapped baked items. Ms. Rose Brown is offering to pick up items out of car line for anyone who is not able to come into the school to drop off their items. If you would like to participate, please sign up: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/bake136

FYI

Homework:

Students will have a homework assignment to do every night except on the weekends. Homework is independent practice of concepts and/or skills learned in class. They may have math, science or Spanish language arts homework. If students do not complete in class assignments, they may take them home to complete as homework. Please let me know if you have any concerns with the homework.

Math Notebooks:

I still have some students without a math notebook. Students need a spiral bound graph notebook to use as a math journal. This item was part of the school supply list, but I believe some parents had a difficult time finding them. Please, ask your child if he/she has a graph notebook for math class.

Wishlist:

I have added glue and rulers to my wish list. Those two items were not part of our classroom supply list, but I need them terribly. I welcome any donations of rulers and glue to our classrom.

First few days of school

The First Days of School

I will be spending the first few days of school helping students get to know me and one another. We will also spend some time becoming comfortable with various classroom routines. Our goals is to help students become independent workers.

Birthdays

It costs money and takes effort to make birthday treats for almost thirty students. If you and your child choose to celebrate their birthday at school, we invite you instead to donate a book in Spanish to the class library on your child’s birthday. Please help your child wrap it, and he or she will be able to choose a friend to help open it and present it to the class. Birthday books will be kept together on a special bookshelf. They are a gift that every child in our class can enjoy again and again. You may still choose to send treats for 30 students, but please make sure they are peanut free. We will pass these treats out during lunchtime.

Classroom Volunteers

If you are interested in helping out in our classroom, please follow the link on this website to complete the volunteer form.
